Exporting
Two ways to get a finished file, suited to different moments.
There are two ways to get a file out.
Export from the studio#
Open the export panel, set the range and the settings, and render.
This runs on your machine, using the same engine that has been drawing your preview. What you have been watching is what you get.
Local files stay local for this. You do not need to sync footage to export from the browser.
Ask skute for it#
"Render this and give me the file."
This runs on our servers and suits a long or heavy cut. It does not tie up your machine and you can close the tab.
Three things to know:
It is not instant, and skute will not pretend it is. The render carries on in the background. The finished file turns up in the project's media library a few minutes later, the same way any other file arrives. There is no download link waiting at the end of the sentence.
Footage has to be synced first. A server cannot read files that only exist on your machine. If anything on the timeline is still local, the render stops and tells you what to sync instead of quietly rendering black.
Ask once. Asking twice for the same cut does not start a second render. You get back the one already running. Renders cost real time on real hardware, and there is a limit per request and per day.
Frame rate#
Server renders use the timeline's own frame rate by default, including NTSC rates.
Only change it when you actually need to. A frame rate that is not a clean multiple of the timeline's own has to drop or repeat frames unevenly across the cut, and you will see it in anything that moves.
