Reviewing the cut

What to check when skute hands work back, and how to take over.

skute checks its own work, but it checks particular things. Knowing which ones are yours is the difference between trusting it usefully and trusting it blindly.

What it has already checked#

That the edit landed. Clips on the right tracks, at the right lengths, with the grades and speeds it set. Read back from the timeline, not assumed.

That the cut works as a story. For narrative edits it has watched the cut back, judged the pacing, and fixed the weakest moment.

That important text can be read. Text is the one thing that can be perfectly placed and still wrong. White words on a bright sky. A caption across someone's face. A line that only just clears the edge of the frame. So when skute places significant text it looks at the real frame instead of trusting that the title exists.

What is still yours#

Whether it is the right cut. It judged the cut against the brief you gave. A wrong brief gets a faithfully wrong cut.

Close calls on taste. Which of two good takes. Whether the joke lands. Where the cut should breathe.

Anything you did not mention. It will not invent a rule you never gave it.

Taking over#

Switch to Studio and edit. There is nothing to accept or export first. skute's work is ordinary clips on the same timeline.

Editing by hand does not shut skute out either. Ask for another change afterwards and it reads the current state of the timeline first, so it works from what is actually there rather than what it remembers doing.
