Working together

See who else is in the project, and talk to them without leaving it.

When more than one person has access to a project, you can see who is there.

Who is here#

People in the project appear as a small stack of faces near the timeline. Each one shows their picture, or their initial if the picture has not loaded.

You also see what they are doing. Their cursor, their playhead, what they have selected, and a ghost of a clip while they drag it. That is what stops two people quietly working on the same shot.

Talking while you edit#

You can start a huddle and talk without leaving the project.

The useful part is who is speaking. The ring around a person's face turns green while they are talking, and everyone looking at the project sees it, including people who never joined the call. You can tell who is talking without being in the room.

When you would rather not be watched#

Presence has three settings, and it is your choice which one you use. The setting follows you everywhere, because how much you want to be watched is about you and not about one workspace.

Setting Your face Cursor and playhead Drag preview Huddle
Live Shown Shown Shown Yes
Quiet Shown Hidden Hidden Yes
Ghost Hidden Hidden Hidden Only if you join, and you confirm first

Quiet is the one most people actually want. "I am here and you can reach me, but I do not want three people watching my playhead while I think" is the real request behind "can I be invisible".

Ghost hides you completely, but the timeline still shows that somebody is editing, with no name and no face. Clips moving on their own with no explanation would be worse for the person watching than a marker that admits a person is doing it.

Voice always beats Ghost. If you join a huddle you are audible, so you are present. If you were a ghost when you joined, you get asked to confirm you are stepping into the room.

Saving and clashes#

Your edits save as you work. Each save carries the version of the document it was based on, so if someone else changed the same thing first, your edit is refused rather than quietly overwriting theirs. You are told, and nothing is lost silently.

Editing the very same clip at the very same moment as someone else is still best avoided. Presence exists so you can see that coming.
